Meet Officer David McLaughlin
ALLEJO — A Concord man held at gunpoint by an off-duty Vallejo police officer last August has filed a claim against the city of Vallejo alleging excessive force, false arrest, and assault.
The claim stems from a confrontation outside a Walnut Creek pizzeria on Aug. 11 in which Vallejo police Officer David McLaughlin held Hutchins as gunpoint after the two got into a verbal argument.
Adrian Burrell’s video was shared thousands of times within hours. He says he was on the front porch of his home when an officer pulled over his cousin, prompting Burrell to pull out his phone and begin filming.
The officer can be seen yelling at Burrell to “get back” and then telling him he’ll take Burrell to the ground. His name plate indicates he is Vallejo Ofc. David McLaughlin.
“That wasn’t very smart man, now you’re going to jail,” McLaughlin can be heard saying. But Burrell says when McLaughlin learned he was a veteran, he let Burrell go.
“Does that mean that if I had not been a vet, he would have put me in jail for not breaking the law?” Burrell asked in his post.
Vallejo police did not immediately comment.
