Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah has backed the police for firmly dealing with people resorting to violence and damaging public property during the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, reports Asian News International (ANI).
Shah underscored that one must take into account the position of the Police personnel during a violent protest when stones are being pelted at them, given they have a responsibility to save the life of people, and also of their own.
While denouncing the violence and condemning it, Shah said that one should understand that it is not easy to stand still when thousands of stones are being pelted. The Home Minister said this in response to a question on Police brutality posed to him during an interview with ANI.
Responding to the interviewer’s question on the incident when Police entered an ICU whilst attempting to contain the protests, Shah said that there would have been ‘one or two’ incidents of Police entering the ICU while chasing the rioters and that such incidents should be avoided.
